Our video crews in St.Petersburg were filming an important conference for UFI. UFI is the Global, Premier Association of the Exhibition Industry. There are 5 million people working in the exhibition industry globally and an UFI event is very important for its networking capabilities.
We were requested to use ENG cameras with long lenses, to cover the distance between the speakers and the back of the halls. We decided to use the Sony PMW 500 series with Canon KJ22ex7.6B IRSE lenses. Conference coverage is not new to us in Russia. We filmed on conferences in Moscow for DuPont and Morgan Stanley before. This conference in St.Petersburg lasted for 3 days and involved 2 video crews from us.

Covering conferences might be a tricky issue, especially if it is a big conference with multiple events happening at the same time. The only way to cover all the important aspects of the event is to employ more video crews. This obviously requires a bigger budget. Unfortunately some less experienced clients look only at the price and if that price is higher than their budget, they move along to a cheaper provider without trying to negotiate with us. This will result in a loose-loose situation for both of us, therefore when we “sense”, that there is a budgetary issue we always try to offer a pre-emptive solution.
